AlphaSim Sikorsky S-55 Checklists

(Abbreviated for use with the flight simulator only)

 

Preflight

 

  1. Exterior Check
    1. Main landing gear
    2. Engine Inlet
    3. Upper flight controls and swashplate
    4. Pylons
    5. Tailboom
    6. Stabilizer
    7. Tail rotor. Controls, hub and blades
    8. Canopy

 

  1. Interior Check (Pilot controls)
    1. Canopy door
    2. Seat adjustment to design eye position
    3. Pedals check
    4. Parking brake - ON
    5. Pitot switch - OFF
    6. Engine - OFF
    7. Carb heat - OFF
    8. Battery - OFF
    9. Lights - OFF
    10. NAV / GPS - OFF
    11. Magnetos - OFF
    12. Rotor brake - OFF
    13. Fuel valve - OFF
    14. Clock - Set

 

Starting Engines

 

  1. Power lever (collective) – 0%
  2. Master battery switch - ON
  3. Instrument panel lights as required - ON
  4. Beacon lights - ON
  5. Fuel valve - OPEN (ON)
  6. Rotor clutch - ON
  7. Magnetos 1 & 2 - ON
  8. Power lever (collective) – 40%
  9. Start Engine until 700 RPM – ON
  10. Observe RPM increase
  11. Gently increase power lever until RPM reaches self sustaining 2200 RPM
  12. Engine RPM at +2200 RPM – Power lever to 0%
  13. Allow engine (2700 RPM) and temperatures to stabilise
  14. Pitot heat – ON if required
  15. Carburetor – ON if required

 

Taxi

 

  1. Navigation lights – ON
  2. Parking brake - RELEASE
  3. Increase collective to 45-50%.
  4. Apply slight forward cyclic to begin taxi.
  5. Use rudder to turn.

 

Take Off

 

  1. Increase power (collective) smoothly to 100% to lift off.
  2. Counter yaw torque with rudder inputs.

 

During flight

 

  1. Set power (collective) to desired level for fwd flight
  2. Maintain cruise speed 70-75Knts IAS
  3. Adjust right trim to level flight and avoid excessive left roll.
  4. Right trim can be adjusted to match forward speed, remove right trim before landing

 

After Landing

 

  1. Navigation lights - OFF
  2. Panel lights switch – OFF
  3. Pitot Heat switch – OFF
  4. Carb heat switch – OFF
  5. Power lever (collective) – 0%
  6. Allow engine to stabilize

 

Engine Shutdown

 

  1. PARKING BRAKE set
  2. Power Lever  - 0%
  3. Rotor clutch - OFF
  4. Let engine cool at IDLE for 1 minute
  5. Fuel valve – CLOSED (OFF)
  6. Magnetos 1 & 2 – OFF
  7. Apply rotor brake – hold switch or SHIFT + B ( hold on constant to apply )
  8. Beacon lights - OFF
  9. Master battery switch - OFF
