AlphaSim Lockheed F-80 Shooting Star Procedures

For specifications see the aircraft menu.  For fuel capacities and weights use the fuel and payloads menu.

Engine Start

Use Ctrl-E (autostart) to start the aircraft.

Takeoff

  1. Make sure fuel is set to fuselage tank.
  2. Set flaps to the up position.
  3. Set elevator trim 1 degree nose-up, rudder and ailerons neutral.
  4. Apply full power smoothly.
  5. Rotate at 105-110 KIAS, liftoff at 125-130 KIAS.
  6. Retract landing gear and retrim as needed.

Climb

  1. Climb at 215 KIAS.
  2. Set climb power to 90-95% N1.
  3. Normal climb is about 8 minutes to 25,000 feet, covering 35 nm and using 23 gallons of fuel.

Cruising

  1. Set cruise power as desired from 70-85% N1.
  2. A normal cruise is around 350 KIAS.

Landing

  1. Approach the field at about 200 KIAS with plenty of room to slow down.
  2. Deploy speedbrake as required.
  3. Extend landing gear on downwind at about 160 KIAS.  Retrim as needed.
  4. Deploy flaps in stages, up to 1/4 down on downwind, 1/2 down on base.  Retrim as needed.
  5. Don't deploy full flaps until the runway is made.
  6. Normal landing speed is 115 KIAS over the fence, touchdown at about 100 KIAS.
